Great Guide for Selecting Wine

I recently came across a wonderful wine blog called winefolly.com. It has some great and fun tips including "Wine vs Grill: Which wine with BBQ wins", "Wine 101", "The 10 most important thing to know about wine" and more.

I particularly like - no love - the wine guide "The Different Types of Wine By Style & Taste," It's a great way to learn how to select the type of wines you enjoy most, rather than doing a "I hope I will like this wine I just purchased but have no idea, but will drink it anyway just because -smile.

Marcus Johnson's Flo Wines

My first disclaimer is that I am not a wine expert, sommelier etc…just a fan. There’s a lot of “wine talk” that I still don’t quite understand, despite me reviewing scorns of magazines, books, articles about wine. With that said, I just give “plain” talk about my experience as a wine fan.

I thought I would kick off the re-launching of Wine Colors by talking about Flo Wines, launched by a friend of mine, and great musician Marcus Johnson. It’s great to see his Flo Wines now available in stores across the country. No easy task.

I’m not a big Chardonnay fan, after discovering other white wines such as Riesling, Viognier and Torrontes, but I do admit, I like Flo’s Chardonnay (which blends some of those wines elements I enjoy).

Here is some information about Marcus and his Flo Brands from his website, flobrands.com.

“FLO Brands is a lifestyle company created by Marcus Johnson, an internationally renowned, Billboard Top 10, NAACP Image Award-nominated jazz musician and entrepreneur from Washington, DC. Johnson’s unique, self-taught style of piano play, has earned him distinction among his peers, praise within the media, and accolades across the music industry.

FLO Wine, part of FLO Brands, produces and sells two types of wine – a Chardonnay and a Red Blend. The wine is bottled in northern California and created using grapes from the best appellations around the state.

For the 2010 FLO Red Blend, we started with a smooth, silky Merlot and blended Cabernet Sauvignon to add a backbone and lengthen the finish. Petite Sirah contributed bright upfront fruit on both the nose and palate. The 2010 FLO Chardonnay is a well-balanced, fruit forward wine. We blended a small amount of Viognier to add floral notes and the slight sweetness of Riesling to enhance the fruit flavors and soften the finish.”
